James Derse

James Christopher Derse has been involved in the Frederick County soccer community for 40 years, excelling as a player, coach, and referee. His playing career spanned youth, club, high school, collegiate, and men’s leagues, including a standout season at then NCAA Division I Northeastern Illinois, where he started all 15 games in 1997. Previously, he was an All-Region selection at Frederick Community College. As a coach, Derse has played a vital role in developing players at the youth and club levels. He began coaching in 1998 with Excel/FC Frederick and later took on head and assistant coaching roles with FC Frederick, Goucher and Hood Colleges, and multiple high school programs, including Thomas Johnson and Brunswick. His leadership contributed to a state semifinal run and numerous successful club seasons. Derse also has officiated at various levels, including URSL, club, high school, and JUCO.
